🐴 A Second Chance for Gitana
I met Gitana at our village’s annual fira — a lively agricultural market where animals are bought and sold.
Among the healthy horses, she stood out immediately:
a small bay pony with dull eyes, sharp ribs, and hooves in painful condition.
Fragile. Exhausted. Forgotten.
When I stroked her neck, it felt as if her whole story fell into my hands.
Later I learned the truth:
she wasn’t 19 and rideable, as claimed —
she was 26, painfully thin, and heading toward slaughter if she didn’t sell.
I tried everything to find her a home, but everyone was full.
With a heavy heart, I told my husband about her…
and a few days later, he said the words that changed her fate:
“Bring her home.”
🌿 Settling In
From the moment she arrived, Gitana showed a gentle, grateful spirit.
She greets me every day with a soft nuzzle,
as if reminding me she knows she is safe now.
She is incredibly sweet and patient,
loves belly scratches, and enjoys any form of affection.
She’s a bit of a foodie too —
though treats must be limited because of her laminitis.
Her daily care includes:
-
speedibeet + soaked alfalfa + supplements
-
ad-lib hay
-
extra soaked alfalfa in the evening
🌈 Her Life Now
Gitana is finally living the retirement she deserves.
No more work.
No fear.
Only care, rest, and quiet days filled with love.
She is one of the horses who will remain with us permanently,
not because she is unwanted,
but because she has earned the right to grow old in peace.
Here, she is safe.
Here, she is home.
