🌑 Behind the Rescue
The part no one sees, yet the part that matters most.
🐴 The Truth Beneath the Beauty
People often see the magic of a rescue:
the soft eyes, the healing touch, the quiet moments of connection.
And yes — that magic is real.
But rescue also has a shadow side.
A side that isn’t photographed, posted, or easily understood.
A side built on discipline, commitment, and love that does not take a day off.
🌧️ No Holidays. No Breaks. No “Later.”
Caring for rescue horses means living inside a rhythm that never pauses.
There are no vacations.
No mornings to sleep in.
No evenings when the work can simply wait.
In autumn and spring, we stand ankle-deep in mud,
pushing wheelbarrows that feel twice as heavy.
Blankets are drenched, boots are soaked,
and the rain rarely cares about our plans.
In summer, the heat rises to 30–40°C,
and still—the feeding, the mucking, the healing, the tending
does not stop.
🐚 The Weight We Carry With Love
Twice a year, 240 bales of hay are hauled into storage by hand.
Every day brings repairs, wound care, hoof care,
mud management, poop management,
and the endless cycle of cleaning, lifting, checking, observing, protecting.
Blankets tear.
Supplements run out.
Vet bills come unexpectedly.
And when you run a rescue from your own pocket,
your own financial reserves eventually feel the strain too.
This is not a complaint.
It is simply the truth.
A truth carried with devotion —
because they depend on us, and we will not fail them.
🌒 The Emotional Reality
Some horses will never be rehomed.
Not because they don’t deserve love,
but because they have already lived hard lives.
Older bodies, chronic issues, past traumas —
their needs do not lessen with time.
Their care becomes a long-term promise,
a commitment to dignity, safety, and peace
for however many years they have left.
💛 Why We Share This
Not for pity.
Not for sympathy.
But for transparency, honesty, and understanding.
Behind every rescue story is a person
making quiet sacrifices,
showing up in storms and heatwaves,
and pouring time, money, soul, and strength
into the lives of beings who cannot speak for themselves.
This is the heart of rescue work:
hard, messy, exhausting,
and deeply meaningful.
